A new poll is out, from respected pollster Zogby. The latest poll reflects the enormous evolution in public understanding that has unfolded over the last 15 days thanks to your efforts and your outrage. 61% now OPPOSE the scanners and gropers. 48% are looking for alternatives to fly. Oh sweet victory. From Zogby:

The implementation of full body scans and pat downs by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as part of security enhancements at our nation’s airports will cause 48% of Americans and 42% of more frequent fliers to choose a different mode of transportation when possible, a recent Zogby International Poll finds.

Overall, 61% of the 2,032 likely voters polled from Nov. 19 to Nov. 22, oppose the use of full body scans and TSA pat downs. Republicans (69%) and Independents (65%) oppose in greater numbers than Democrats (50%).

Of those polled, 52% believe the enhanced security measures will not prevent terrorist activity, almost half (48%) say it is a violation of privacy rights, 33% say they should not have to go through enhanced security methods to get on an airplane, and 32% believe the full body scans and TSA pat downs to be sexual harassment. This is in line with frequent fliers (fly more than once every 3 months), as 53% say the enhanced measures will not prevent terrorist activity, 48% believe it’s a violation of their privacy rights, 41% say they should not have to go through it to get on an airplane, and 35% believe it is sexual harassment.

If you haven’t read it yet, the book that Wendell Potter just released would probably come in handy, with tips on how the insurance industry swayed public opinion towards national healthcare. Of course, if your last name is in relation to the Donnelley Marketing that I work for, you’ve probably got a good idea of how this all works. But here’s the link just the same.

Polls are starting to level off – that is, more people are finding out what the whole issue is about and drawing their conclusions. TSA has modified Pat Downs to not touch private areas, supposedly. Because outcry at the Airports today is mild. Still, I plan to boycott flying until normal screenings take place. Unless there is probable cause, I don’t think I should accept extreme measures by being put through an unproven Xray machine or pat down, where dignity [has been] set aside., Hopefully, the public will not have to endure the craziness of the past 2 weeks.

  3. Todd M says:

I see nothing wrong with the xray scans. If you don’t like it.. Drive or take a train. Don’t make my line longer because you feel it’s wrong. You don’t like it…turn around walk out of the airport it’s your choice! You know exactly what is going to be done. Your choice to fly and deal with TSA! Nobody is holding a gun to your head to buy that airline ticket, but they might be holding a gun to your head on the plane because you refused the TSA pat down or scan and a hijacker just hijacked the plane! TSA is there to make us safe. Again. If you don’t like the TSA…. don’t fly.
I fly international a couple of times and I don’t see anybody else complaining as much as we do in the USA.

Hellooooooo??????????? Respected pollster Zogby???? From where? The planet Mars??? Or funded by the Republican, terrorist, Saudi, Fox News party?

66%, that is two thirds for those of you with out an education, SUPPORT the TSA and Scanning.

  5. sultan says:

I think that the only thing being made by this TSA fiasco is that attackers will use other means for their attacks. Then they will start using the TSA at rail stations, malls, stadiums and even car rentals. What will be next? Cavity searching?
I can’t believe the US government agencies are treating the US citizens like sheeps and are cutting their privacy and fundammental rights. The USA is becoming a huge Ghetto. This has nothing to do with security, this is more to custom the US citizens that their government agencies are over anything and any rights. USA is becoming a Police Country.

  6. c says:

It must be only a matter of time until enough people have been “touched” by the new procedures.

People can read about these 3% of travellers who receive a “secondary screening” and shrug it. Most will only get mad once they see it done on themselves or a family member.
