In just 6 days we raised $4,000 for the first of hopefully many pro-dignity, anti-TSA billboards at airports across the nation. The first one will be placed near the Philadelphia airport so we can easily take pictures of it and promote it to local media.

Which city is next? That, my friends, is up to you. Organize a small group of concerned individuals in your area. Pick an airport. Find out how much a billboard will cost. Solicit designs and raise the money. Together we will get our message of dignity, liberty and resistance to millions of people.

This should also be a bumper sticker, and possibly even some shirts. I’d wear one!!

    BRAVO!!!!!
    You guys are so hot!
    This is so exciting!
Thank you for all that you do, and the brilliant strategy! Well thought out!

Here is a possible funding source:

    https://www.fdncenter.org

To qualify, this is a library database of grants which apply in every category under the sun, not a funding source itself. The Foundation Center Library (linked above) has been in existence for decades and has miles of information and sources. Including, very poignantly, an email series of nothing but grantors who donate to social justice causes.

    AHA!

There are two basic grant series one can apply for:

    Foundation Grants to Individuals
    Grants to Non-Profits

There is about a $25 per month fee for the Individuals series (don’t know the non-profit) to access the d-base. Emailing the librarians is free.

I myself obtained three out of four grants I applied for that were listed on this site: This is for real and definitely not a hoax.

There is a lot to know about how to successfully apply for a grant. It’s a salesman’s game: Be a feather in their cap, and don’t beg (even though you need to itemize the need for them. THe point is, show them who benefits and what the overwhelming response has been, and they are all the more eager to help a successful cause!)

Also be prepared to fork over very personal and private financial information, such as bank statements and credit card statements, budgets et al. This is supposed to be kept confidential and is used only for purposes of determining need. These are major corporations who have set up endowments of various kinds, so there should be no problem with ID theft or the like. I never had a problem myself, and the Foundation Center Library to repeat has been around for decades. They have 7 walk in library branches in the USA (New York, San Francisco, Dallas if I am not mistaken, elsewhere…see link above).

I no longer know how to surf the site (it has changed) ask librarians for info. They also have books and courses about how to apply for a successful grant and how to write a good grant proposal.

One librarian told me that the economy has affected grant giving, with cutbacks about 7.5% That doesn’t sound like much, he said, but it does make for longer waiting lines. Then again, even as some grantors had to close their doors, others stepped forward exactly because of the economy: The Library emailed about funders who were helping people with the subprime mortgage crisis to prevent foreclosure. I don’t know how the social justice category has been affected by the economy, but I still would suggest “go for it”. And be persistent.

Sometimes it’s the second application which is the winner where the first was turned down. Simply ask why you were turned down, jot notes and revise your proposal according to the grantor’s specifications. Bingo!

Best of luck and I hope this helps!
