The man in charge, Barack Obama, said he understands people’s frustrations, but insisted, “What we’re doing is the only way to assure the American people’s safety.” That is an outright lie and an example of the emperor’s new security. Did I just hear a child say, “It’s not the only way!”

Is there only one way to build a house, grow a tomato or make a pair of pants? Is there only one place you’re allowed to go grocery shopping? Only one kind of coffee drink at Starbucks? Only one school to choose from for your kids? Only one kind of car? Only one form of transportation that could get you to work on time?

Barack Obama says there is only one way to reduce the risk of airline terrorist attack because he works for the government. In government, freedom of choice is limited. Bureaucrats decide on one course of action, one way to solve any given problem. It’s usually the wrong way. That is why the president says this is the only way. He is limited by the government paradigm.

The solution is to free passenger security from the hooks of government. Out here in the real world, we have choices. There are multiple ways to solve any given problem – unless the government is involved, that is. If we want to reduce our impact on the environment, we can choose more environmentally-friendly products and ways of living. If we want our kids to eat healthy, we can buy oatmeal, fruits and vegetables instead of processed cereals.

Choice is the foundation of our commercial life, our economy. So don’t try to sell us this nonsense that there is only one way to keep people safe. Check out the way Israel does it. Consider bomb-sniffing dogs. Or a machine like the Ionscan Sentinel 2. People fly general aviation every day in large numbers with only the security sense of the pilot and that has worked out very well.

But the most important choice we need to make now is to abolish the TSA. It is not keeping us safe. In fact, it is humiliating the only force that stopped the shoe and underwear bombers: us passengers. We need choice in passenger security and clearly president Obama is saying the TSA can not provide that. The TSA is unfit to fly.

One strategy is to get the TSA workers on our side. Are they part of a union? If so, is there a way to get their leaders involved and have the workers refuse to touch other people’s private parts during the pat downs, sort of like a strike? If all the workers did this as a group, that would be pretty amazing.

Anybody know of a way to make this happen?

They aren’t unionized, but everyone should warn them about the health risks. Why aren’t TSA staff allowed to wear film badge dosimeters, like those warn by health care workers potentially exposed to radiation?
