Zappos Sponsors TSA, Customers Outraged

  • email

Aaron, what are you thinking? Setting side the whole airport checkpoint debate, what kind of marketing professional gets the bright idea to associate his brand with the TSA? I like how one commenter summed it up:

I’ve seen the bins, which is why my wife and I have stopped shopping at Zappos. Associating your brand name with radiation and blue-gloved hands touching my penis is, I’m hoping, not the link you were trying to develop…

I’m studying their website right now so I don’t accidentally purchase one of their products in the future.

If you’re on twitter, you can give this guy some remedial lessons in public relations @macknuttie

That’s it! They just lost this FAITHFUL $$$$ customer!!!

  • Steph

Wow. I haven’t seen such terrible PR since the lead writer of a video game replied to fans’ concerns on a forum with, basically, “I’m in charge, so just deal with it, nyah.”

  • NoGrope4Me

Looks like it’s time for me to drop them a note about this and close my account there.

I’ve been with Zappos since their inception, and spent thousands of dollars with them over the years. I just posted on their Facebook page (we will see how long it stays up) and am going to email them as well. I AM NO LONGER A LOYAL, VIP ZAPPOS CUSTOMER.

I suspect they feel if you’re going to be forced to take off your shoes anyway, you might as well be wearing shoes easily put on and taken off. From their p.o.v., it’s cheap advertising for a product which will make the lives of their potential customers easier.

ZAPPOS! Get your gate rape shoes on, you’re about to be groped.

  • Paul7272

I used to do a lot of business with Zappos. Thank you for highlighting this for me. I just told them I will never spend another dime on their site. Everyone should do the same.

  • Guy J.

Unbelievable. “Zappos: joining forces to violate your 4th Amendment rights!”

I’m cancelling my account and will encourage my friends to do the same.

  • StopGateRape

His response on Twitter was really pathetic: “Sorry to those that are bothered”
I’ve never purchased from Zappos because I’m cheap and they’re expensive, but I’ve enjoyed the stories of their excellent customer service. Now I’ll enjoy the stories of all the people who won’t be ordering from them again.

  • Brian

    Screw you, Zappos.

  • Cindy

I take it Zappos hasn’t seen today’s Drudge report on the TSA still groping kids…

  • Yep

For those that didn’t know, Zappos is an Amazon.com owned company.

  • Debbie

Oh no, not Amazon. I love Amazon. But thanks for the info. Maybe this company can sponsor clean needles for drug abusers or the banks that brought down our economy. Now that would get them publicity.

    • alan

Clean needles is a good idea. Might not be great brand association but it’s a fine idea and should be supported.

I hear that Zappos is introducing a new line of “peek-a-boo” panties and crotchless briefs to further expedite transit times at TSA check points.

  • Jim Lehman

It doesn’t seem like anyone read the article to the end. They aren’t sponsoring the TSA. They are paying Secure Point. Found a PDF on Laughing Squid. http://laughingsquid.com/wp-content/uploads/zappos-airport-security-bin-faq.pdf

Even Zappos admits that this is money the TSA would otherwise have to spend. Thus it is the same thing, no matter if it goes through a few intermediate steps.
