“It appears that this administration and Administrator Pistole have decided that, in the end, it will be unionized … but I think, if they’re going to go down that path, I hope that they give those … who have responsibility of the security ... plenty of latitude with regard to employment, with regard to hours, with regard to responsibilities because it’s just not an arena where you want to have everything [tied] to a process that may take months when the security officer has hours or maybe minutes to make those decisions.”Former Homeland Security bureaucrat and PA governor Tom Ridge
How can the TSA agents be stopped from unionizing? They can’t! It’s that simple. Labor unions are a form of free association. That’s a basic human right. You can’t deny anybody that!
Of course, the TSA agents deny us travelers that right all the time. The purchase of an airline ticket is a form of free association between the traveler and the airline. But the TSA violates that by getting in the middle and deciding whether we’ll be allowed to associate or not.
Even if TSA agents have a hard time grasping that, that is no reason to punitively deny them their rights. It’s just another reason to respect them, so they’ll have a chance to realize what they are doing is wrong.
When are they going to figure that out anyway?
